How many chairs and tables do I need for my party?

The basic rule

Count every confirmed guest, including kids who will sit down to eat. Add 10% extra chairs for unexpected arrivals or the gift table.

  • 1 chair per guest + 10% extra
  • 1 table per 8–10 people
  • 1 tablecloth per table (plus an overlay for color)
  • Separate kids tables if there are more than 8 children

Examples by size

  • 20 guests: 22 chairs, 2–3 tables → Get-together package (Q195)
  • 40 guests: 44 chairs, 4–5 tables → Celebration package (Q420)
  • 60 guests: 60 chairs, 6–8 tables → Big party package (Q690)
  • 40 adults and 20 kids → Full family package (Q890)

Don't forget service tables

Besides dining tables, set aside at least one rectangular table for the buffet, another for cake and gifts, and a cocktail table if you'll have a drinks bar. They're the ones people forget and miss the most.

Measure your space

A round table with 10 chairs takes up a circle roughly 3 meters across. Leave aisles of at least 1 meter so guests and servers can move freely.
